During 2020, the State Prosecutor's Office recorded an increase in achieved results compared to the previous two years and continued successful cooperation with international institutions, primarily the European Unit for Judicial Cooperation (EUROJUST), the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office announced today.
As they state, the cooperation of EUROJUST was achieved in the previous year in 58 cases, in which the State Prosecutor's Office of Montenegro undertook all actions within its jurisdiction.
"In addition, an extremely high percentage of confirmed indictments was achieved in the judicial control procedure. The achieved result of almost 99% (98,22) of confirmed indictments is better compared to the results achieved in this part compared to 2019 and 2018. ", the statement added.
According to the State Prosecutor's Office, the State Prosecutor's Office achieved remarkable results in the preliminary examination of indictments - in almost 99,5 percent of the cases of control of those acts, the Court did not establish the existence of errors or deficiencies, nor the need for better clarification of the state of affairs in the case, as obstacles to scheduling the main hearing.
"In addition to the above, during 2020, the application of an alternative method of solving criminal cases continued. By applying the institute of deferred criminal prosecution, state prosecutors solved cases against 1221 persons. On this basis, over 510.000.00 euros were paid for humanitarian purposes, which is almost twice as much than compared to 2019. In addition, through the application of this institute, more than 1.760.000 euros were paid in the name of damages to the injured party," VDT states.
Based on the plea agreement, the cases against almost 500 persons were resolved. "In the concluded plea agreements under the jurisdiction of the Special State Prosecutor's Office, almost 6 euros were paid to the Budget of Montenegro in the name of illegally acquired property benefits."
During 2020, the State Prosecutor's Office continued to actively apply the law in terms of conducting financial investigations and implementing security measures - banning the disposal and use of immovable property, as well as the temporary confiscation of movable property, the VDT added.
