The intensified activities of the protection service of the National Park (NP) Lake Skadar are already giving visible results in the fight against poaching during the fishing ban, and the success of these actions instills confidence in the new operational approach to combating poaching on the lake.
This was concluded at today's meeting that the President of the Board of Directors of the Public Enterprise for National Parks of Montenegro (JPNPCG) Marina Jočić and Director Jelena Kljajević held with the management of NP Skadarsko jezero.
At the meeting, as announced by the NPCG, the performance of lake patrols during the past weekend was analyzed, when 26 fishing nets were seized in the Koraćica and Pantovac regions, three vessels were seized in the Vitoja and Plavnica regions, and several persons were processed and handed over to the competent authorities.
"The success of these actions instills confidence in the new operational approach to combating poaching on the lake, which was defined and agreed upon at today's meeting," the announcement states.
At the meeting, it was also concluded that the prosecution's behavior so far represents an insurmountable obstacle in the fight of the new management of JPNPCG against poaching.
"Specifically, the frequent avoidance of the Basic State Prosecutor's Office to adequately prosecute persons caught in poaching in accordance with Article 326 of the Criminal Code (illegal fishing)", pointed out the NPCG.
It was established, as stated, that the assistance of the state and closer cooperation with the border police authorities are a necessary condition in order to be able to remediate poaching on an area larger than 370 square kilometers of NP Skadarsko Lake.
