In honor of the Sixth Montenegrin Strike Brigade, near Danilovgrad, a monument - a sculpture - was built on Obad's hill, which already seems forgotten.
The author Slobodan Vukajlović gave it the shape of a swan, and after construction, on the side facing the main road Danilovgrad - Nikšić, there was a copper plate with an inscription.
She's been gone for decades.
It was created after, in the late 1970s, local administration committees and SUBNOR veterans in Nikšić and Danilovgrad organized the creation of a memorial complex as a sign of the military victory of the 6th Montenegrin brigade on Obadovo brdo.
The architect Vukajlović from Nikšić had the best solution, and the construction of the complex began, in the center of which is a now dilapidated sculpture of a swan, made of concrete near the Obadov brijeg pass, right next to the highway.
Although it was built in honor of the heroes who defended the nearby Danilovgrad Pass from the invasion of German soldiers in November 1944, nothing on the monument indicates the importance of their work.
There is no wreath or flowers of honor on it, which indicates that few people visit it.
On the monument, there is no board or memorial plaque nearby that would give the visitor even a brief overview of when and in whose honor it was erected, who designed it and when.
There are not even signs that would direct passers-by to stop by the highway and pay their respects to the freedom fighters.
Due to the unmaintained environment, the garbage it is surrounded by, the overgrown and unkempt grass around the monument itself, it seems that it is both neglected and abandoned.
Unfortunately, the space between the two parts of the monument is used by irresponsible individuals as a toilet.
All this indicates that those who should, do not care about the monument.
And the Brigade, in whose honor a four-meter-high and five-meter-wide concrete monument was completed in 1974, was founded near Kolašin on November 14, 1943. According to available data, it had over 500 anti-fascist partisan fighters.
That unit primarily operated in the region of Nikšić and Grahov, trying to weaken and expel all local operational groups of German and Chetnik troops, and Muslim militias.
During September and November 1944, the Sixth Montenegrin Strike Brigade participated in the final liberation of Nikšić and Grahov from the occupation, and after these successes they shifted their focus to the occupying forces that were still in the Danilovgrad region at that time.
At the end of October, the German 21st Mountain Corps, led by commander Ernst von Lajzer, tried to break through Danilovgrad with the army, in order to take Nikšić from the partisans. However, the German forces on Obad's hill were intercepted by several partisan units, especially the 6th Montenegrin Brigade.
From November 13, 1944, they launched a bloody offensive to prevent the Germans from crossing Brijeg.
After 13 days of fighting, in cooperation with other Montenegrin units, they inflicted a heavy defeat on the majority of the German division that unsuccessfully tried to break through from Danilovgrad to Nikšić and forced them to retreat east of the prejevoj on November 26.
After that victory, the Supreme Commander of the People's Liberation Army, Josip Broz Tito, personally congratulated the 6th Montenegrin Brigade for their efforts and success during that offensive, emphasizing their heroism and endurance in battles.
