Jokić and Mršulja laid a wreath on the monument in Freedom Park

President of Kotor Municipality Vladimir Jokić and President of Kotor Municipality Assembly Maja Mršulja laid a wreath on the monument in Freedom Park, on the occasion of May 9 - Victory over Fascism Day, paying respect to the victims of fascism in the Second World War.

For the past three days, the main city gates have been lit up in blue - the color of the European Union.

On this day, in 1945, the document by which the German army, three days earlier in Reims, signed the surrender came into force, formally ending the Second World War in Europe. The defeated fascist ideology brought 61 countries into the war, taking 50 to 80 million human victims, more than half of them civilians.

This date also marks the Day of Europe because on that day in 1950, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France, Robert Schuman, initiated the declaration, which was a proposal for France and Germany to establish an organization that would jointly manage their coal and steel industries, in order to prevent another war in Europe. The proposal led to the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community, the forerunner of today's EU.
