The municipality of Kolašin will try to get money for the restoration of the Partisan Cemetery, a memorial cultural heritage object, through the project Program for the Protection and Preservation of Cultural Monuments in Montenegro.
As they announced from the office of the manager of the Municipality, the total value of that work would be around 35.000 euros.
The memorial monument Partisan Cemetery in Breza, they remind in that service, has historical significance for the city.
"Due to the effects of the weather, there was some damage to that complex, so it is necessary to rehabilitate certain parts. Damage was registered to the central path, the podium between the pillars, as well as external damage to the monument... It is also necessary to restore the letters on the monuments, because some have faded and are not well visible. This memorial heritage object has a great identity importance for the local population", explains the office of the manager of the Municipality.
They remind that in the current Strategic Development Plan of the municipality of Kolasin, the protection and promotion of cultural heritage is defined as one of the priorities.
In the field where there is now a memorial cemetery, in the period from March 1942 to May 1943, 72 patriots from all over Montenegro were shot. They previously spent time in the infamous Kolašin prison. After the war, 204 mounds were made with the names of shot and killed partisans and a memorial complex was built, according to the conceptual design of the painter Momčilo Vujisić.
The Municipal Manager's Office also sent the American Embassy in Podgorica a project draft for the reconstruction of the building of the former Regional Tourist Organization. They claim that the building is now defunct. The manager's office says that about 15.000 euros will be needed for the repair work on that building. The project also planned the production of information about local heritage, and it was announced that the building will house the offices of the local Tourist Organization.
TO Kolašin has been located, ever since its foundation, in an unremarkable wooden building with only a few rooms. In that location, there are several other visually similar catering and craft establishments, so it is often a big challenge for tourists to find the doors of that organization.
Just a few tens of meters away is a much more conditioned, more attractive, more spacious and empty building of the former Regional Tourist Organization (RTO). That expensive building was built more than a decade and a half ago with the cooperation of the Austrian Office for the Development of Bjelasica and Komovo and the Municipality. It is in the very center of the city, made of stone and wood and designed to save energy.
Plans to move TO to that facility have been going on for a long time. So far they have not been realised.
