At the Ljub Čupić monument, representatives of the communists and the organization of NOR fighters gathered to express their revolt against the vandal act of a Nikšić citizen who urinated on Čupić's monument.
"We strongly condemn this act of vandalism. This is not only happening in Nikšić, but all over Montenegro. Monuments are being torn down, street names are being changed. Today, it seems that Ljub Čupić is being defended by the committee, and not those under whose banner Čupić fought," said Radislav Stanišić, president of the JKPCG Central Committee.
As he said, the communists were on Sutjeska this morning, on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of one of the most guarded battles fought by Yugoslav partisans in the Second World War.
"When we were returning and crossed the border, we found out about this terrible news that shook us all. We came here straight from the bus to support our national hero," said Stanišić and recalled Čupić's biography.
"Today, there are individuals who want to destroy freedom, who say that everything that was done during the communist era is wrong, that those communists were dictators. What kind of dictatorship was during the communist era can best be seen from the fact that the worker was self-governing, that he enjoyed all the rights, got apartments, when education and healthcare were free, when a worker could take his family on a summer vacation from his salary. And today, children can only see the sea on TV," Stanišić said.
