In the future, the University of Montenegro will award the title of honorary professor (professor honoris causa).
That was decided by the UCG Senate.
"The university can award the title of honorary professor (professor honoris causa) to a distinguished professor or scientific worker from abroad for a special contribution to the development of higher education if he has a confirmed international affirmation and reputation through his teaching-educational, scientific-research and applied-professional activities, if he works on the general raising of scientific research capacities, if he was or still is at the head of international scientific research institutions that are recognized by the general public, if he was or still is at the head of large scientific research projects, if he participated or is participating in unification of scientific and research capacities at the international level and if it has contributed or is contributing to the inclusion of the domestic scientific community in research infrastructures recognized by the international public", the amendments to the Rulebook on the awarding of honorary titles and other recognitions at UCG were recently adopted.
It is specified that the proposal for awarding the title of honorary professor is determined by the council of the university unit or the rector.
"The proposal for the award of the title of honorary professor (professor honoris causa), in addition to the statement of the decision establishing it, must contain biographical and bibliographic data of the candidate and an explanation of one or more reasons for which the award of that title is proposed, with appropriate evidence," the updated Rulebook states. , which is signed by the acting rector Vladimir Bozovic.
The procedure further dictates that a special committee give an opinion on the proposal. With that opinion, the proposal is submitted to the Senate, which decides on the awarding of the title of honorary professor.
"The commission's opinion is published in the UCG Bulletin at least 15 days before the day of the Senate session where the proposal is decided upon." The Senate makes a decision on awarding the title of honorary professor by majority vote of the total number of members of the Senate. In the case of several candidates, when none of them gets the required majority, the vote is repeated for the candidate with the highest number of votes," the Rulebook states.
