The first experiences in dual education show that both students and employers are satisfied, the Ministry of Education announced.
From that department, they reminded that the system of dual education, which implies that students of secondary vocational schools acquire part of their education directly at the employer where they do their internship, has come to life in Montenegro as of this year.
"This type of training was accepted by about a hundred renowned employers, as well as by over 250 students, who have the opportunity to learn to perform tasks in a real working environment and apply the theoretical knowledge they acquire at school at the same time," the announcement says.
It is stated that, on that occasion, representatives of the Ministry and the Center for Vocational Education visited the kitchen and restaurant of the Hilton Hotel, where more than ten students of the School for Secondary and Higher Vocational Education "Sergije Stanić" have been doing their internship since this school year, while a total of 46 students and schools in dual education.
"In the modern kitchen of a well-known hotel, they, together with their mentors, experts in the field of cooking, confectionery and restaurant, learn how to serve, prepare meals and desserts," the statement added.
Student Miloš Mitrović said that he always liked the profession of a waiter, so this year he entered the third level of the "Sergije Stanić" school and is studying under the dual system of education.
"This kind of learning system, which includes working with experienced colleagues with financial compensation, means a lot to the students," Mitrović said.
His colleague Slobodan Lukovac, a second grade student, believes that dual education is a great opportunity for gaining work experience and faster employment.
"I think it's an excellent move by the state that has enabled us to study in this way and get to work more easily tomorrow," said Lukovac.
As explained by the Ministry, through dual education, students in the first year spend four days at school and one at the employer, students in the second year spend three days at school and two at the employer, while during the third year they spend three working days at the employer.
Compensation increases by grade, in proportion to the number of days spent with the employer.
The children's work is monitored by a mentor designated by the employer, but also by the practical education organizer from the school the student attends.
As announced by the Ministry, they participate together in the assessment of students, when the time comes.
Dejan Labović, organizer of practical education at the "Sergije Stanić" school, said that 46 students of this school participate in the dual education program and are educated at the Hilton, Hemera, Center Ville hotels and the Astoria and Marco Polo restaurants.
"I am sure that dual education will bear fruit, because the employer actively participates in the education of students, the creation of the curriculum and the educational program, monitors and measures success. This way of learning will contribute to the popularization of deficit occupations", Labović believes.
The Ministry said that another good side of dual education is the plan that after signing the contract with the employer, the students stay with the employer until the end of their education.
This, as they stated, is especially pleasing to Ksenija Pajović, a first-grade student, who is practically training to become a pastry chef at Hilton.
"During my dual education, I don't change hotels, I stay in one constantly, which is good, because I will learn their work system, and if they like me, there is a high possibility that I will stay and work there," said Pajović.
The chef of the Hilton hotel, Slađana Šoć, believes that the implementation of the dual education program is a big step in professional education, and that it is the right way to acquire knowledge and shape the staff that Montenegro needs.
She said that through the dual education program, they continued their otherwise good cooperation with the "Sergije Stanić" school, this time at an even higher level.
"Many students of this school, including myself, are employed in the kitchen of the Hilton Hotel. The students who are practically educated here and whose mentor I am, will be here for all three years of schooling, during which they will get to know our way of working, and we will be in the opportunity to recognize their qualities. If they prove themselves well, after finishing school they can become part of our team," said Šoć.
Her student, Nemanja Šutović, said that it is very important for him that he is doing his internship with a lot of experienced mentors.
"I learned how to process meat and fruit, prepare some dishes, pies and rolls. I am satisfied that we are not changing the place of practice, we are not wasting time getting to know new cuisines, but we can use it to learn something new at the employer where we are already doing practice, and in addition to all that, we also get a monetary reward," emphasized Šutović.
As the Ministry said, the students who were interviewed recommended to the future generations of primary school students to opt for secondary vocational school, and thus open up the possibility of employment in the profession.
The Director General of the Directorate for General Secondary, Secondary Vocational and Adult Education in the Ministry of Education, Veljko Tomić, said that he was satisfied with the excellent start of the dual education program.
He explained that in this way it will be possible for educational policy makers to get information directly from the market about the educational profiles that we lack.
"Now we have a situation where almost 40 percent of high school students who enrolled in the third degree are in the dual education system. We all benefit - the education system produces high school students who will go directly to the labor market and find a job more easily, employers have the opportunity to participate in the creation of staff the kind they really need," Tomić said.
He reminded that at the beginning of the school year, about 100 prominent employers signed contracts with students on individual realization of practical classes, which will enable them to acquire knowledge in a real working environment and later find employment more easily.
The Ministry said that through changes to the set of laws in the field of education, which, among other things, enabled dual education to come to life, as well as through the active promotion of vocational education, they created the conditions for vocational education to be the first choice of an increasing number of primary school graduates.
