Since 1990, the Association of Veterans of the Wars of Montenegro celebrated in Nikšić July 13 - the Day of Montenegrin Statehood and the Day of the Uprising of the People of Montenegro.
They laid flowers on the memorial plaques to "Montenegro and Herzegovina heroes Novak Ramov Jovović and Stojan Kovačević near the Cathedral Church of St. Basil the Wonderworker of Ostrog and on the monument under Trebjes to the patriots shot in 1941/1944 by the Italian occupier, including Ljubo Čupić whose a defiant smile remained forever strengthening freedom"
The Director of the Association, Radan Nikolić, said that they are sending the initiative to the Government of Montenegro to build a "unique monument to a Montenegrin fighter - a freedom fighter who through the ages defended Montenegro and the state union of which Montenegro was a part."
"Such a monument would symbolize the strength of arms and patriotism of Montenegrin fighters in many defensive-patriotic wars and unite the fighters who won the independent state of Montenegro in the battle with the Turkish enslaver at the Berlin Congress on July 13, 1878, and the fighters who stood up en masse and steadfastly On July 13, 1941, to defend the freedom and honor of Montenegro from the Italian occupier and supporters of Sekula Drljević, who the day before kissed the curdled fascists Pirc Biroli and handed him the heart of Montenegro - Njegoševo Cetinje," the Association announced.
They also added that "as Josip Broz Tito's policy in Montenegro in 1948 resulted in Goli Otok, where the XNUMXth of July insurgents, NOR fighters and innocent citizens were mass imprisoned, tortured and killed, who died because of their political stance, spoken or planted words "
"The association appeals to the state authorities of Montenegro to urgently prepare and pass an act on their rehabilitation. Moral, not material, compensation is important and it is time for at least a few of them to wait in their lifetime for the state of Montenegro to regret the injustice and terror inflicted on them Nikolić pointed out.
