Minister of Health Jelena Borovinić Bojović called on parents in Montenegro to get vaccinated and, as she stated, not to burden their children with responsibility for which they are not ready.
Borovinić Bojović, at the first meeting of the Working Group for Early Child Development of the Council for the Rights of the Child, formed as part of the "EU and UNICEF for Early Child Development in Montenegro" project, said that the Ministry of Health, as one of its priorities, defined the care of to the health of the youngest.
As she stated, the Ministry will, through strategic documents, strive to additionally regulate and improve this very important segment of health care.
"As important as the role of the health and education system, and of society as a whole, is equally important is the role of parents or families in the proper development of their children," said Borovinić Bojović.
That is why, she believes, it is very important that parents, especially in challenging times, such as the pandemic caused by the coronavirus, understand how important it is to accept the recommendations and to protect their children and themselves.
"By getting vaccinated, we will contribute to preserving the health and lives of both ourselves and our descendants, and to rid ourselves of this scourge that is affecting the whole world together," specified Borovinić Bojović.
She recalled the words of the British pedagogue Alexander Neal, who stated that a child should not be asked to face responsibility for which he is not ready, nor should he be burdened with decisions that he is not mature enough to make.
Borovinić Bojović therefore told parents not to be a burden to their children and urged them to get vaccinated, so that they would not expose their youngest to the risk of getting sick and would not deprive them, possibly, of their permanent absence in case they get infected with corona.
As she stated, what the Ministry is working on, which is part of the EU and UNICEF Initiative for Early Child Development, is the improvement of care for mothers and newborns within the initiative "maternity centers tailored to babies".
According to Borovinić Bojović, it is important to mention that the National Committee for Breastfeeding has been formed, which will greatly contribute to the implementation of activities and the ultimate increase in breastfeeding rates.
She announced that in the fall, training for trainers will begin as part of the "maternity centers tailored to babies" initiative, and then the project will support the evaluation of maternity centers in order to define the necessary steps for the initiative to take off in Montenegro.
"I hope that this Working Group will successfully implement all the tasks and goals foreseen by the project "EU and UNICEF for early child development in Montenegro", and that we will all work together to ensure that our children develop and grow in a healthy environment, showered with love, with care and attention", concluded Borovinić Bojović.
