In the Italian city of Bergamo last night, on November 14, the Agreement between Italy, Croatia and Montenegro was signed on the international management of the site under the protection of UNESCO "Venetian Fortifications of the 16th and 17th centuries".
"The agreement was signed by representatives of six cities whose cultural assets are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. On behalf of the Municipality of Kotor, the agreement was signed by President Vladimir Jokić. We remind you that after the inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List in Krakow in July of this year, Kotor the fortress became part of the multinational serial nomination of Venetian fortifications of the 16th and 17th centuries," the Municipality of Kotor said.
Ten years of work by the Governments of Italy, Croatia and Montenegro, together with regional and local communities, Jokić's cabinet adds, has been crowned with success, so on July 9 this year, the transnational site "Venetian Defense System of the 16th and 17th centuries" was included in the UNESCO vu list of World Heritage.
"Expressing satisfaction on that occasion, yesterday the Ministries of Culture of Italy, Croatia and Montenegro, together with the cities of Bergamo, Peschiera del Garda, Palmanova, Zadar, Kotor and Šibenik-Knin County, confirmed the activities already undertaken and defined by the Memorandum of Understanding, which the ministries culture of the mentioned countries signed in Rome on December 1, 2015. This officially started the joint management of the new location, which will be performed by the International Coordination Group, which consists of representatives of the Ministries of Culture and local communities, as well as representatives of the Permanent Secretariat in the city of Bergamo," said the Municipality of Kotor .
The ministries of culture and the mayors of the six cities, they point out, are aware of the cultural significance that will be brought by the joint management of the new location, the establishment of new friendly ties, as well as the cooperation between the peoples involved.
