The National Parks of Montenegro appealed to all competent authorities to urgently get involved in extinguishing the fire in the Durmitor National Park.
They announced that the fire, which has been raging for the third day in the area of Mount Bunetina in the Municipality of Pljevlja, has spread since this morning and engulfed the territory of Durmitor National Park. "During the last three days, the Park supervisors did their best to extinguish the fire in the territory managed by the Forestry Administration, however, the fire spread this morning and engulfed the National Park area. Due to the inaccessibility of the terrain and the strong wind, at this moment it is only possible to extinguish the fire from the air," said NPCG director Jelena Kljajević, who was on a working visit to NP Durmitor today. "Given that the fire is spreading rapidly due to weather conditions, we appeal to the necessity of urgent action by all entities of the system in order to completely extinguish this fiery element and prevent the fire from spreading through the canyon of the Tara River," said the NPCG director.
The public company announced that, according to the latest information from the field, the fire is active below the Bavan hill and threatens to spread towards the Tara River.
NPCG announced earlier today that the timely action of all entities involved in extinguishing the fire would prevent consequences for the overall flora and fauna of the protected area, which promotes Montenegro as a destination of outstanding natural beauty and value.
