The fire in the National Park (NP) Durmitor has not yet been localized, said the director of that NP, Pero Popović.
"The fire is spreading through dry grass, it is currently surrounded by pine trees and is spreading deep into the Tara canyon," said Popović in the Morning program of the Television of Montenegro.
He stated that they informed the Secretariat for Emergency Situations about this on Wednesday.
"We had contact on Wednesday and they offered help, but that help is not yet available. We hope that it will be," said Popović.
He stated that the firefighters from Pljevlje did their best and extinguished the fire where they could get there by vehicle, and added that the Forestry Administration also helped, Portal RTCG reports.
Popović pointed out that the resources for extinguishing fires in such inaccessible terrain are limited.
"The fire is at the very edge of the canyon and the area is dangerous, it should be extinguished from the air," said Popović.
