HRA: Tadić-Mijović is a symbol of investigative journalism and the debunking of high corruption and crime

Action for Human Rights (HRA) strongly condemns yesterday's verbal attack on journalist Milka Tadić-Mijović in a public place, the non-governmental organization (NGO) Action for Human Rights (HRA) announced today.

"This attack is particularly disturbing because Milka Tadić-Mijović is a symbol of investigative journalism and the debunking of high corruption and crime in Montenegro. The death threats, which were addressed to her and all Vijesti journalists yesterday, must be effectively and seriously punished," the HRA press release points out. .

Director of the Center for Investigative Journalism, Milka Tadić-Mijović, was verbally attacked last night, around 20:XNUMX p.m., in the parking lot of the Voli megamarket in Petrovac.

Due to insults and numerous threats, the Budva police arrested a security person of interest, Boško Filipović (56).

The HRA added that every attack deters journalists from dealing with serious topics, which, according to the HRA, is disastrous for the democratic development of Montenegro and the establishment of the rule of law.

"We expect that MPs and ministers will finally take an interest in the proposal of 9 NGOs for stronger criminal protection of journalists in the Criminal Code, which MP Marko Milačić submitted to the Parliament. All those in power in this country must focus their attention on the protection of journalists and ensure that every type of violence against them. And all previous attacks on journalists and the media must be punished because it is obvious that journalists have already become an easy target for all kinds of thugs, from criminal clans and arrogant politicians to individual thugs," the HRA statement reads.
