The Center for Civic Education (CGO) announced today that it "condemns the unfounded detention of MP Dragica Sekulić at the border of the Republic of Serbia".

The former Minister of Economy and MP of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Dragica Sekulić, was arrested by the Serbian police at the border with Montenegro two days ago after they found bromazepam tablets in her possession.

"This is one of a series of inconveniences suffered by MPs of the Parliament of Montenegro and obligates the Government of Montenegro to protect the integrity and dignity of the state. Does the Government have the strength and courage to do so? The MP from the opposition DPS was detained for possessing, as stated, six tablets of the drug Bromazepam," the CGO press release points out.

The non-governmental organization (NGO) added that according to the "Law on Psychoactive Controlled Substances of the Republic of Serbia, MP Sekulić was not required to have any medical documentation".

"This follows from the fact that she was carrying psychoactive controlled substances with her in the original manufacturer's packaging and in the amount stipulated by law, i.e. one package containing up to 30 individual doses at the most," CGO said.
