On the occasion of September 18, Nikšić's Liberation Day, Nikšić's fighters and communists laid flowers in front of the monument to the patriots shot near Trebjes and paid tribute to those who gave the most precious thing they had - their lives - for freedom.
Olivera Đurović spoke in front of the Association of Fighters of the National Liberation War (UBNOR) and anti-fascists of Nikšić, who pointed out that September 18 is one of the most significant dates in the history of Nikšić.
"However, we have witnessed that in the past period in Nikšić, and throughout our homeland, there is an attempt to revive a monstrous ideology that we thought was buried a long time ago and someone said that there is a fear of its spreading, but is the word fear allowed to be mentioned in this place, in our Nikšić? No! Because there is no fear and there cannot be. They do not allow us the 32 whose names are engraved on this monument and the 1516 fighters who died throughout our former homeland and those 665 48 victims of fascist terror and those 502 national heroes and XNUMX bearers of the 'Partisan Monument'. That's why there is no fear. There is only faith in the fact that we will preserve the values of anti-fascism on which our city and country rest. Happy Liberation Day, my friend, may you live and develop in your proud secular and anti-fascist Montenegro," said Đurović.
As they pointed out from UBNOR, for the first time since the monument under Trebjes was erected, there were no representatives of the municipality of Nikšić and the Army of Montenegro with them to lay flowers together and bow to the shadows of the fallen.
An hour later, flowers were also laid by members of the municipal committee of the PUK CG Nikšić. Dragoje Strunjaš, the president of the Nikšić communists, said that he hopes that September 18 will always be remembered and celebrated.
Radislav Stanišić, the president of the Central Committee of the party, said that they remember with reverence the warriors and the shot patriots from these areas and that they will not forget the heroic feats of the participants of the NOB and the socialist revolution.
"We remain hopeful that the new government will make it possible for ruined companies, destroyed and looted factories to work again, for law and justice to have their rightful place, and for all citizens to be satisfied. By realizing these ideals, we can only fulfill our debt to the past, contribute to the progress of the present, especially the future, and for Nikšić to once again be a city of beer and steel, of pupils and students," said Stanišić.
The monument below Trebjesa, on which is engraved: "Generations will admire your heroism for centuries", was erected in honor of 32 patriots who died in the Second World War, among them Ljubo Čupić and Joka Baletić.
