Since the beginning of the year, 16 injuries at work

Since the beginning of this year, there have been 16 injuries at work in Montenegro, two of which were fatal, the Directorate for Inspection Affairs (UiP) said.

UiP told the MINA agency that electric shock was the cause of both deaths, while the most common cause of other injuries was a fall from a height.

"Since the beginning of this year, there have been 16 injuries - two fatal, two collective and 12 serious injuries at work," UiP stated.

As they said, injuries most often occur in the field of construction, transmission and distribution of electricity, protection and rescue, in the processing industry.

UiP said that this year a total of 13 decisions on temporary work bans were passed, due to immediate danger to life and health.

"Irregularities are noted during regular inspections, when it comes to the field of occupational health and safety, and during this year there were 67 initiatives for inspection," the Administration stated.

The initiatives, they added, are mostly submitted by employees and citizens, but there were also anonymous ones.

"The most common irregularities found in the field of health and safety at work are that the employer does not procure and issue to the employees the means of work necessary for their workplace, with an expert opinion and assessment that the prescribed measures of safety at work are provided," they said. from UiP.

As they stated, the irregularities also related to the work of employees without certificates of competence for safe work and medical certificates of medical fitness for workplaces with special working conditions, i.e. increased risk, as well as the failure to keep records in the field of occupational health and safety.

The rest, as the Administration said, related to the employer's non-compliance with its obligations in terms of procurement, release for use and ensuring the use of means and equipment for personal protection at work.

"As well as not having a risk assessment document for all workplaces, non-compliance by the employer with regard to taking the necessary measures and assigning employees to provide first aid, fire protection and evacuation of employees", added the UiP.

Last year, there were 24 injuries at work, six fatal, one collective and 17 serious.
