The Center for Investigative Journalism of Montenegro (CIN-CG), the Center for Civil Liberties (CEGAS) and the weekly Monitor will monitor the work and reform of the Montenegrin Prosecutor's Office in the next two years through the Investigative Research project.

As CIN said, the key goal is to strengthen the rule of law in Montenegro, as well as support European integration, especially in chapters 23 and 24.

They also state that it is planned to contribute to these goals through a comprehensive analysis of the work of Montenegrin prosecutors and the influence of the Prosecutor's Office on meeting the criteria and closing the aforementioned chapters.

Several activities are planned during the project, such as the preparation of a study and analysis of legal acts that regulate the work of the Prosecutor's Office, with a special focus on internal procedures concerning the disciplinary responsibility of prosecutors (evaluation of their work, sanctions, promotions, etc.).

There will also be a survey of public opinion on the trust of citizens in the judicial system with an emphasis on the Prosecutor's Office and at least 12 research stories related to the work of prosecutors and the Prosecutor's Office.

Also, efforts will be made to raise awareness in society about the work of the judicial system through campaigns on social networks and traditional media;

The project also plans a dialogue between interested parties through debates attended by representatives of the judicial system, the civil sector, the media, decision makers, politicians and legal experts.

"Closing chapters 23 and 24 is necessary in order for Montenegro to make key progress in the accession negotiations and become a member of the European Union. It is clear that the most important thing in this process is the reform of the judicial system, as well as the willingness and willingness of decision-makers to change the system in accordance with standards and by the practice of the EU, but part of the responsibility is borne by other social actors, especially the media and the civil sector, which should contribute to the entire process of transformation of Montenegro towards a functional democracy," CIN said.

They pointed out that the organizations implementing the Investigation Research project will strive to contribute to the rule of law in Montenegro and the accession negotiations with the European Union during the two-year implementation.

The project is supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and implementation began in September.
