One of the hiking trails in Europe, "Peaks of the Balkans", has received an updated edition of the map, an additional 37 kilometers of the trail, announced the Tourist Organization of Gusinje.
The Vrhovi Balkana trail, which is 192 kilometers long, passes through Montenegro, Albania and Kosovo and, according to TO, is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Europe, with an ascent of 2.300+ masl, and won the first prize of the World Council for Tourism and Travel (WTTC) in Abu Dhabi in 2013.
"By improving the map, tourists have been given the opportunity to experience, along with the original (vanilla) version of the trail, a new adventure of more than 37 kilometers long, rich in ancient cultural heritage, natural curiosities and the most beautiful panoramic viewpoints in Montenegro and beyond," said the director of the Gusinje Tourist Organization, Irfan Radončić .
He pointed out that "Peaks of the Balkans" now covers the spatial entities of Alipaša izvori and Grebaje, increasing the total length of the trail in the territory of the municipality of Gusinje by 17 kilometers - which is a significant success that will contribute to the development of tourism. From here, the trail continues through Tepisht and Bordolecit to Theth in Albania.
Expressing their joint readiness to work on the protection and sustainable development of environmental protection, the presidents of the municipalities of Peć, Plava, Gusinja and Skadra during 2021. signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding track management.
The director of TO Plav, Samira Canović, said that in this edition of the map, two corrections were made on the section that passes through the territory of the Municipality of Plav, in response to the remarks of tourists who were passing through the path, and all with the aim of improving their safety and bypassing monotonous parts, i.e. raising the level of the overall of the trail user's experience.
"Nevertheless, a project of this size would not have been possible without the efforts of colleagues Anka Kujović from MER and especially Thomas Woehrstein, CIM expert, for which we from LTO Plav and Gusinje are especially grateful," she concluded.
"Huber Kartographie" recently released an updated version with a refreshed design, the development of which was coordinated by the Ministry of Economic Development of Montenegro in cooperation with GIZ (German Government Organization for International Cooperation) and tourist organizations of Plava, Gusinja, Peć and Shkadra.
