The management of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the police are dedicated to the fight against organized crime and corruption, said MIA State Secretary Zoran Miljanić, stating that the European Commission's (EC) Report for Montenegro confirmed that efforts in this regard are recognized.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that today Miljanić spoke with the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs of Germany, Štefan Majer.
It is stated that Miljanić and Majer are satisfied with the substantive and high-quality cooperation of the Department of Internal Affairs and agreed that there is room for this cooperation to develop in the coming period.
"Miljanić emphasized the commitment of the current management of the MUP and the police to the fight against organized crime and corruption. He said that the recently published EC Report confirmed that the efforts in this area are being recognized, which will be an incentive to continue with a determined fight against these challenges", the announcement says.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Miljanić informed Majer about the activities that the department undertakes on the legislative and strategic level, and highlighted the results in terms of operational police work.
"Our goal is to ensure the quality of security policy planning through the creation of sustainable solutions, and effective results through the coordination of services, with a focus on the fight against organized crime and corruption," Miljanić said.
According to him, effective functioning in those areas is a prerequisite for further progress in Chapters 23 and 24.
Miljanić added that cooperation in the fight against illegal migration is also very important and that Montenegro will give its full contribution in that regard.
Majer said that Montenegro has a clear European perspective and that it can count on the support of Germany on that path.
"Germany is a sincere and reliable partner to Montenegro, and numerous donations to the Montenegrin MUP contribute to the modernization and strengthening of the capacity and efficiency of the Montenegrin police," said Majer.
As he said, in addition to the support they provide in terms of equipment, they also successfully cooperate in other fields.
As stated by the MUP, it was concluded at the meeting that the departments of internal affairs of the two countries will remain committed to improving relations, which will have a positive impact on other areas as well.
The announcement states that reform activities in the field of security remain an absolute priority.
The MUP stated that the German ambassador to Montenegro, Robert Weber, also attended the meeting.
