The change of rector of the University of Montenegro (UCG) and the coronavirus pandemic are among the reasons for the delay in awarding diplomas to graduates of the Faculty of Medicine who completed their studies last academic year.
In early February, the university delivered the printed diplomas to the Faculty of Medicine, which were signed by the dean a few days later Miodrag Bobo Radunović, which then had to be signed by the rector at the time Danilo Nikolic.
"There were changes in the management structure of UCG, so due to technical details on the diplomas themselves, they could not be signed and delivered. I believe that the current problem will be overcome by the end of this year," Radunović told "Vijesti".
This was also confirmed by the UCG.
In the first half of February, the management board of UCG dismissed Nikolić from the position of rector, and appointed him as rector Vladimir Božović...
At the end of each year, the Faculty of Medicine organizes a ceremonial presentation of diplomas to graduated students of all study programs, as well as awards to the best students by year.
On this occasion, graduated students also take the Hippocratic Oath.
Graduate students could not fulfill this "obligation", and Radunović explains that last year, due to measures aimed at preventing the spread of the coronavirus, they were unable to hold a formal session where they would present their diplomas.
In the study year 2019/2020. 155 students completed the basic studies of all study programs of the Faculty of Medicine, 33 of them in Medicine, and 66 in specialist applied programs.
The fact that they did not take the Hippocratic Oath at the solemn session did not prevent new doctors from working, that is, completing their internship.
"What is important is that all graduated students received a credible document on graduation, which served them to apply for the Government's employment program for university graduates, thereby enabling professional practice. "Medical students have completed their professional practice-internship and earned the right to take the state exam," Radunović told "Vijesti".
UCG also explained to "Vijesti" that most of the graduated students received a certificate after completing their studies, which served as proof of their completed level of study and with which, among other things, they could apply for the Government's program for employment of university graduates and thereby perform professional practices.
Also, during that period, UCG issued diplomas to a certain number of graduated students, and at their personal request, according to an urgent procedure, which enabled them to continue their education and apply for certain scholarships.
"As stated technical reasons were overcome by the graduated students of the school year 2019/2020. will receive a diploma by the end of this year as proof of the completed level of study", said the UCG.
The reason for issuing certificates instead of diplomas from February to September of this year is of a technical nature and relates to the public procurement procedure, as well as the fact that until February the diploma forms were printed with the name of the former rector and as such could not be signed," they announced. from UCG
