The Civic Alliance (GA) expressed concern over the escalation of the political crisis, inter-ethnic tensions and the blockage of judicial and electoral system reforms and called for a dialogue on the most important issues in society to be initiated without delay.
They pointed out that Montenegro was given a chance to refresh and initiate the processes of social progress, "which are currently being put on the back burner by party interests, national tensions and daily political topics".
They believe that our chance lies primarily in diversity and the need to start a dialogue immediately and without delay on the most important issues in the interests of citizens, such as fixing the situation in the judiciary, the economy, European integration and strengthening institutions and their political independence.
As they say, incendiary rhetoric, hasty reactions, uncontrolled outbursts and primitive insults among political actors increasingly distance us from this task, which, they believe, is especially dangerous considering their influence on shaping public opinion.
"This state of affairs is unsustainable and therefore it is necessary to replace this type of public speech with a call for dialogue and words of understanding and respect for diversity. This will create an atmosphere in which politicians and public officials who can offer their expertise to this society will come to the fore , wisdom and skills to solve the accumulated socio-economic problems, instead of demagogues who encourage further divisions, ignorance and stereotypes disguised by party fanaticism and concern for great national goals," the GA said.
According to them, if the past elections activated significant civic energy, which made it clear that the problems of a society are not solved by ignoring the constitutional obligations of the institutions of the system or by forcing incendiary national narratives - then politicians, as representatives of citizens, must understand that this energy it must not be wasted on party trades and the continuation of wrong political and social practices, but with other actors.
"Citizens were looking for changes, not replacements, they need more efficient and transparent institutions, a public discourse that overcomes political differences, an inclusive social environment for all national and religious differences and an economy that supports such a system. Citizens do not need other politicians who will only way to tell them they won't get it," the GA statement said.
