The indignation of some locals and parties was caused by the ceremony organized last Sunday by the mayor of Ulcinj, Aleksandar Dabović, on the occasion of the completion of the works on the arrangement of the site near the Freedom monument on Pinješ, because 78 years ago, 39 people from Ulcinj were killed in a devastating bombardment.
"Ignorance or evil intent," briefly commented Nikola Batrićević on behalf of a group of citizens who inherit anti-fascism.
In Forca, they claim that the inauguration of the completion of the works is proof of the ignorance and frivolity of the government, which supposedly glorifies anti-fascism, but does not deal with the crimes of that time.
In Ulcinj on November 7, 1943, during the bombing, according to the available data, at least 39 locals died, 20 of whom were children.
On the same day, Dabović bragged about the arrangement of microlocation 030 near the monument, which, as SUBNOR says, is dedicated to all those who died in the liberation wars against the occupiers and domestic traitors.
"Today we solemnly marked the completion of works on the arrangement of microlocation 030 near the monument in Pinješ. By adapting the stairs in the form of bleachers, installing swings for children, paving the area, installing lighting, planting English grass, tree seedlings and urban furniture, we have arranged this wonderful space, which has been neglected for many years, and in the future it will serve all citizens and tourists for a more pleasant a stay with a wonderful view of the sea and the Old Town", Dabović wrote on his Facebook profile and added "that we will try to organize various musical and cultural events in the future at this specific and interesting amphitheater".
The photos show a landscaped location and a half-painted monument decorated with red balloons. As can be seen in the photos, the ceremony was attended by a very small number of citizens.
"News" from Dabović's cabinet did not receive an answer as to why there were no state or anti-fascist signs during the ceremonial opening of the micro-location on Pinješ near the Freedom monument, why the monument was half-painted and whether the Municipality asked the Administration for the Protection of Cultural Property or some other institution if it could to carry out any works on the monument.
Since the beginning of his mandate, Dabović has practiced informing the public about his activities mainly via Facebook.
The Administration for the Protection of Cultural Property did not answer to "Vijesta" whether Sloboda is under their authority and whether a permit was issued to carry out work on the monument.
Batrićević says that the arrangement of the location is not disputed.
"The bizarre whitewashing and desecration of the monument is disputed, the fact that there is no national flag is also disputed, the date is also disputed because it is a sad day for Ulcinj. It is also disputed that we do not know whether representatives of the veterans' organization were there and whether they were even informed about all this," he told "Vijesti".
On the occasion of the ceremony at the monument, Forca also reacted strongly.
"We welcome the arrangement of every corner of our municipality, which should improve the lives of citizens. But the Freedom monument was inaugurated on the seventy-eighth anniversary of the bombing of Ulcinj, on November 7, 1943," the Force wrote in its response.
It is added that that day was a day of mourning for Ulcinj because 39 residents lost their lives, among them twenty children from the Kasmi, Lamoja, Zejnelaga, Pufja, Ušaka, Lazoja, Raičević, Mavrić, Stojanović, Caušević and Jovović families.
"Historical reality proves that our national history in Ulcinj has people who really lived and contributed to this country and we owe it to them not to forget them", according to Forca.
They listed the names of the innocent victims of the bombing on November 7, 1943 and pointed out that they should be engraved on the monument on Pinješ.
