More than 30 pelicans were spotted yesterday on Bojana below the so-called Bird Island near the village of Reč, and a rare magnificent sight was captured by a "Vijesti" reader.

The surreal play of pelicans on the surface of the clear river took place just a few kilometers away from the last pools of Solana, the favorite abode of the imposing bird species.

Ornithologist Darko Saveljic he says that nothing spectacular happened, but that the occurrence is not frequent.

"The ornithological explanation of the case is that the pelicans want to drink clean, fresh water after feeding in the salty pools of the Solana. It's not the first time, although such scenes are rare," said Saveljic.

He also stated that this phenomenon once again confirms the importance of the Solana ecosystem, that is, the Bojana delta.

"Now is not the nesting time and pelicans walk from October to mid-December, not tied to habitats. It is important to note that these pelicans do not only have a Montenegrin passport and Montenegrin citizenship, but also Albanian and Greek, i.e. double or triple", the ornithologist vividly described the pelican's journey.

He emphasized that this is confirmed by ringing and reminded that as many as 109 pelicans were registered at the Ulcinj salt pan a few years ago.
