The Vice-President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Branka Bošnjak, spoke at the opening panel of the conference "How to protect the family from domestic violence", which is part of the Human Rights Day celebration program and brings together important speakers from state institutions, international organizations, and the civil sector.
As announced by the Cabinet of the Vice-President of the Assembly, the Bosniak informed the participants of the conference about her long-term involvement in the fight against domestic violence, since 1997 as one of the founders of the SOS telephone.
She pointed out that all these years the story about this topic has been current, but unfortunately little has been done.
"She also noted that the NGO sector is much more active and effective in the fight against domestic violence than state institutions, which is the biggest defeat of the state. Vice-President Bošnjak targeted as the main problem individuals in state institutions who do not do their job, as well as the fact not to be held accountable for their actions," the statement said.
During her presentation, Bošnjak pointed out that the recent events are a defeat for all factors of social life and that an environment has been created in which victims of domestic violence are sent a message that the state does not have the strength to protect them and that the priority of the relevant ministry in the coming period must be to strengthen the Centers for Social Work .
"She expressed her willingness to contribute to the improvement of legal regulations, even though even now the main problem is not legal solutions, but individuals in state institutions," the announcement concludes.
