Minister of Health Jelena Borovinić Bojović said at a meeting with the Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) for Europe, Hans Kluge, that the coronavirus pandemic has been going on for a long time, that people are tired and that she understands that.

"However, we have to find a balance. All the more so because it is very important that schools remain open, in accordance, of course, with the situation and possibilities," Borovinić Bojović pointed out.

The Ministry of Health (MZD) announced that Kluge praised their efforts in the fight against the coronavirus so far and that he gave full support to Borovinić Bojović "because of the determination that, at the moment of the appearance of the new omicron strain, the celebration of the holiday is only allowed with a COVID certificate, as and to prohibit mass gatherings that are impossible to control".

"You have made a smart decision, I am proud of you," Kluge said during a meeting with Borovinić Bojović on the sidelines of the WHO international conference in Moscow.

The MZD said that "speaking about the omicron strain, which is still unresearched, but requires a high degree of attention, Kluge pointed out that we have to be careful, but not to panic."

"Because of omicron strain, some countries, such as Great Britain, Denmark and Norway, are introducing certain restrictions due to certain projections about the speed of its spread. Norway, in a preliminary scenario, estimates that in three weeks, from the current 4.700 cases per day, there could be a drastic increase to around 90 thousand to 300 thousand new positives in one day.At the same time, Norway estimates that there could also be an increase in hospitalizations, even if the omicron turns out to be milder than the delta, with 30 admissions per day as currently 50 to 200 in 24 hours. Omikron will surely replace the Delta strain. What we know for sure is that it attacks younger, unvaccinated people. Vaccines still work, although we don't know how much, and that's why it's important to speed up the immunization process and give third doses." , Kluge stated.
