After breaking the deadline for more than half a year, the works on the construction of cobblestones in the Old Town are finally coming to an end, it was confirmed to "News" by the company "SN Elektroniks" from Ulcinj, which is one of the subcontractors of the works.
There are cobbled streets that lead from the Museum past the Venice Palace to the Balšić Palace and the so-called central, next to the hotel "Pirat" to the restaurant "Gime Nimanbegu".
The old townspeople are mostly satisfied with the new cobblestones, although the side streets will still remain in their old guise, under the old cobblestones.
The owner of the famous restaurant "Teuta" To Shazi Nimanbeg says that now it can be said that the Old Town has high-quality cobblestones.
"Of course, I think there are some mistakes, but in the end we have to be satisfied, because the cobblestone is incomparable to the previous one," he told "Vijesta".
He stated that the cobblestones have been completed on most of the projected routes, but that there is still work to be done.
On the occasion of the new cobblestone, the president of the Society of Friends of the Old Town "Kaljaja" announced on his Facebook profile Karamanag excrement.
"With great delay, we are finally getting a nice cobblestone. We regret that the small, cross streets will remain unpaved. We will obviously have to wait for another project," he wrote.
The paving work was originally supposed to start last year and be completed in March. However, the works only started on January 13, and the new deadline for the completion of the project was April. But even that deadline was breached, so citizens organized protests and petitions, there were also mentions of court cases and proposals for termination of the contract, while the Podgorica company "Montal", which is the main contractor, justified the delay with bad weather and the coronavirus.
"We started work only around the New Year, and in January there were a lot of non-working days. The work was additionally slowed down by rain and even snow, but also by the coronavirus, which is unfortunately still in our ranks today. Despite all that, we believe that we will bring the realization of the project to an end in April", it was announced to "Vijesti" in Montal at the time.
At the time, the Municipality and the Tourist Organization condemned the breaking of the deadlines, saying that it was unacceptable for the Old Town to welcome the summer in such chaos.
The old town welcomed the season with the main streets, which were covered with a thin layer of concrete in order to be able to move as much as possible without danger. Cobblestone came to the first hotels and restaurants later.
