The British government remains a committed partner to the Government of Montenegro in all aspects of the fight against organized crime, through support for the strengthening of security checks at the borders in order to prevent the illegal flow of goods, but also through strengthening the mechanisms of legitimate trade in the country and the region.
This was announced today by the Government, after the meeting of Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović with Minister of Capital Investments Mladen Bojanić, Director of the Revenue and Customs Administration Milena Petričević, as well as representatives of the British Embassy in Podgorica. The meeting discussed the possibilities of further support in the reform of the customs legislation and the additional strengthening of controls in the Free Zone of the Port of Bar.
Abazović stressed his determination to prevent any form of abuse in the Bar Port Free Zone and emphasized the need to strengthen capacities in the fight against tobacco smuggling. He expressed, as reported, his great satisfaction at the end of the "decade-long organized smuggling" of tobacco through the Port of Bar Free Zone.
Representatives of the British Embassy emphasized the previous investments in strengthening the capacity of customs authorities, including donations of valuable equipment, as well as continued investment in the development of infrastructure for customs controls in the Free Zone.
