The adapted premises of the Resource Center "Podgorica", which will be used by the Public Preschool Institution (JPU) "Đina Vrbica", were officially opened today, and more than 200 children will be accommodated in them.

As announced by the Ministry of Education, the area is about 380 square meters, and the value of the work on adapting it to the needs of the preschool institution was about 40 thousand euros.

"The space consists of five workrooms, two toilets and a kitchen, and is only the first in a series of steps in the adaptation and repurposing of existing facilities that are not being used, and the addition of existing kindergartens," the announcement says.

Minister of Education Damir Šehović said at the ceremony that it is important to solve the problem of overbooking by building new buildings, but also by adding or adapting existing spaces.

According to him, the project of building seven kindergartens with CEB, worth ten million euros, is the biggest step in solving this issue.

"In addition to the already built kindergarten in Zagorič with a capacity for 340 children and the current works on the kindergarten at the Old Airport with similar capacities, which are proceeding according to plan and whose completion is expected in the first half of next year, the beginning of the construction of most of the other kindergartens within the project with CEB is planned is for next year", said Šehović.

He pointed out that children must be given the opportunity for early learning, considering the immeasurable benefits of preschool upbringing and education.

"The sentence that a wrongly educated child is a lost child, places before us a huge responsibility - not to lose even one! If we all understand that this is the responsibility of all of us - institutions, parents, the civil sector, I am sure that we will succeed in this", concluded Šehović.

The director of the JPU "Đina Vrbica", Vuk Stanišić, said that the kindergarten they are opening today is significant for several reasons.

"It is located on the territory of the local community of Zabjelo, which until now had the biggest problem of overbooking. It is also significant because it is a space for which no rent will be paid. With this, he symbolizes the direction of action of the new administration of this preschool institution towards economical, efficient and effective solutions", explained Stanišić.

He said that their entire team worked on the adaptation. "On weekends and even at night, everyone did what they knew, and that's how we built a team spirit that will be the wind at our backs for all similar activities in the future."

"This place will be one of the cultural centers of our institution through which, in cooperation with the Resource Center, we will promote the idea of inclusive education through cultural events," said Stanišić.

As announced by the Ministry, the importance of the commitment of the Capital City was emphasized at the ceremony, and another space in the Old Town was given over to the PU "Đina Vrbica" for adaptation and use.

It was concluded that preschool education socializes, prepares for school and teaches healthy habits, "and that is why we have an obligation to further improve the conditions in which children live".

"All the new spatial capacities that are planned will create conditions for the stay of over 1.600 children," the statement added.
