The correct application of legal norms and the knowledge and application of the practice of the European Court of Human Rights are imperatives that impose themselves on Montenegrin courts today with their topicality, assessed the Minister of Justice, Zoran Pažin.
Today in Budva, Pažin spoke at the ceremonial academy in honor of the celebration of October 29 - Montenegrin Judiciary Day, which was organized by the Supreme Court and the Association of Judges of Montenegro.
As announced by the Government, he reminded that it is exactly 219 years since the adoption of the Code of the General Montenegrin and Mountain Bishop Petar Prvo Petrović Njegoš.
"The General Montenegrin and Mountain Code opened up new horizons for the state of Montenegro, placing Montenegro in the ranks of modern, European nations with a regulated legal order, and promoted the Montenegrin mountaineer to a Montenegrin citizen," Pažin said.
He reminded that this year marks ten years since the adoption of the Montenegrin Constitution from 2007, which is based on the values of peace, freedom, tolerance, human freedoms and rights, multi-ethics, democracy and the rule of law.
"The correct application of the legal norm, which should be interpreted in accordance with the values that are hidden in that legal norm, and the knowledge and application of the practice of the European Court of Human Rights are two imperatives that are imposed on Montenegrin courts today with their topicality", Pažin pointed out.
Pažin said that he expects that next year, Montenegro will meet all the temporary benchmarks from negotiation chapters 23 and 24, and that in partnership with the European Commission, it will receive the final benchmarks for these two chapters.
He pointed out that the membership of Montenegro in the European Union is the most important foreign policy priority.
"We have shown this in the past ten years, when we have already overcome serious obstacles on the way, we have completed the legal framework, harmonized it with EU legal standards," Pashin said.
As he stated, Montenegro still has a number of tasks ahead of it.
"But I am quite convinced that we have the strength, knowledge, abilities and good will to overcome the obstacles and be a full member of the EU in the foreseeable future", Pažin concluded.
In the ceremonial part, the President of the Supreme Court of Montenegro Vesna Medenica, President of the Parliament of Montenegro Ivan Brajović, President of the Judicial Council Mladen Vukčević, President of the Association of Judges of Montenegro Hasnija Simonović and representatives of the Supreme Courts of the region addressed the attendees.
