The Deputy Head of the Mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Montenegro, Siv-Katrina Leirtroe, welcomed the conclusion of yesterday's session of the State Election Commission (SEC), according to which the SEC will amend the Rules of Procedure in order to enable the direct transmission of the sessions.
The OSCE announced that this was a long-standing priority recommendation of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).
"This decision will result in greater openness and responsibility of the State Election Commission, which is a necessary step in achieving greater transparency of every electoral body," said Leirtroe and added that the OSCE Mission will work together with the SEC during the coming months to enable the transmission of sessions.
The OSCE announced that according to the Survey on Public Perception and Trust in Election Commissions in Montenegro, commissioned by the OSCE Mission and published in November 2021, there was a need to further strengthen the transparency and professionalism of the election management body.
"As many as 87,3 percent of citizens believe that opening sessions to the public would contribute to greater public trust in the work of the SEC and the election process as a whole," the announcement reads.
The OSCE stated that yesterday's SEC meeting was also attended by a representative of the OSCE Mission as an observer.
