The municipality of Nikšić will invest over one million euros in sports this year, it was announced at the press conference on the occasion of the presentation of the results of the competition on the co-financing of the work program of sports clubs.
"This year, the municipality will invest a little over a million euros in sports annually, which makes us one of the Montenegrin leaders when it comes to investing in sports. After almost three decades, the reconstruction of the Sports Center hall has begun, which includes the installation of a new parquet, the purchase of new sports props and the installation of an electronic curtain that will separate the main hall from the auxiliary hall. The value of the works is 240.000 euros. We also allocated an additional 58.000 euros, which will be used for the reconstruction of two changing rooms that are in extremely bad condition, as well as the reconstruction of a small swimming pool that has not been in operation for a long time," said the Vice President of the Municipality, Zoran Tomić.
As the reconstruction of the hall will last at least a month, the local administration has decided to meet the needs of all clubs that are unable to use free dates during that period and refund part of the costs, which amount to around 3.000 euros.
As for the competition for co-financing the program of sports clubs, which allocated 88 thousand euros, Tomić, who was the president of the commission, said that 51 clubs applied this year, 11 more than last year, which obligates them, as pointed out that in the next year they are thinking of increasing the budget funds for sports.
"Despite the fact that, through the audit of the financial reports of the clubs that received funds last year, we noticed certain misuse of funds, the decision was unanimous not to reject any club and that everyone should be able to apply for the competition, taking into account the complex financial situation in which clubs find", said Tomic.
He noted that all clubs will be obliged to spend the received funds "exclusively for the benefit of members, competitors and the organization of sports club competitions, and not for the personal benefit of individuals". Funds were also received by judo clubs which, in accordance with the Rulebook on the co-financing of sports clubs' work programs, did not have the right to participate in the competition, because in the last competition season, due to the problems that have followed the sport in Montenegro for years, they did not participate in official competitions.
"From this year, in addition to the already standard models of investment in Nikšić sports expressed both through this competition and through the provision of funds thanks to which sports clubs will receive free dates for the training process and playing matches during the year, we have also provided additional funds that will be distributed according to the urgent needs expressed by the sports clubs", said the vice-president of the Municipality.
In the figure of over one million euros that the local administration allocates for sports, in addition to the funds determined by the aforementioned competition, free training sessions, reconstruction of the hall, changing rooms and a small swimming pool, there are also funds that the Municipality of Nikšić allocates for the football and basketball club "Sutjeska" and the judo club "Academic".
These are clubs founded by the Municipality.
