With a series of educational and informative events, the Municipality of Tivat marked today March 1 - the International Day of Civil Protection and the Day of Protection and Rescue in Montenegro.
Members of the Protection Service of the Municipality of Tivat and the voluntary fire brigades "Krtoli", "Tivat" and "Boka" in the primary schools "Drago Milović" in Tivat and its regional departments in Gradiošnica and Donja Lastva, i.e. elementary school "Branko Brinić" in Radovići held demonstrations exercises for students.
In Porto Montenegro, a fire extinguishing demonstration was held with the "Jovana" fire-fighting ship, while lectures on protection and rescue services and civil protection were organized for the graduates of the mixed secondary school "Mladost" in Tivat by the staff of the Directorate for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Montenegro.
The Tivat Red Cross organized training for those interested in providing first aid, while first aid cabinets were donated to Tivat schools.
"The primary goal of these activities is to raise public awareness of the dangers of major accidents and disasters, as well as the role of civil protection in prevention and education," said Tivat Municipality Manager Patricia Pobrić.
The International Day of Civil Protection was proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in 1990, while the Day of Protection and Rescue has been celebrated in Montenegro since 2013.
