The local community of Sveti Stefan and the residents of Paštrović invited the famous actor Robert de Niro and UNESCO director Irina Bokova before the start of the Global Citizen Forum in Sveti Stefan to prevent the "euthanasia of Miločerski Park", which Greek businessman Petros Statis intends to do by building apartments for the market.
"The announced Global Citizen Forum at Sveti Stefan, in which important world names are participating, including the world-famous actor Robert De Niro as well as Irina Bokova, Director of UNESCO, who will speak on the topic of global education on citizenship for peace, sustainable development and human dignity , will be a real opportunity for all participants of the forum to walk through the hotel complex and see the beauties of Miločerski Park. At the same time, it will be their special opportunity to see it for the last time in its recognizable setting, because an urban attack on this unique botanical reserve is being prepared - one of the most beautiful parks in Europe", stated in an open letter delivered to "Vijesti".
They say that Miločerski Park is not only of touristic importance, but is also part of the cultural and historical mosaic.
"Through almost a hundred years of its existence as part of the Miločer castle, which was built by the royal Karađorđević dynasty, it has also been a silent observer of major historical and turbulent changes in this part of the restless Balkans. During its entire existence, while it was cared for by the kingdom, and after that by the communist regime, it remained untouched, forming a pearl in the crown of the former Yugoslav, and now Montenegrin, tourism. Unfortunately, in a democracy, in cooperation with the Government of Montenegro, its euthanasia will soon be started by the investor who currently manages this complex," they state in the letter.
They add that with a concrete attack in the very heart of the park, with the construction of a skyscraper measuring 52.000 square meters of concrete, the pristine pearl of Montenegrin tourism will be ruined forever.
"We Paštrovići, as natives and people who, through various activities over time, have integrated themselves into this environment, preserved and maintained this space so that it would be the way it is today, invite Robert De Niro and Irina Bokova, as well as all high-ranking guests of this forum , because we recognize them as people who are fighting against such social anomalies, to take advantage of the opportunity to properly familiarize themselves with this process of devastation of natural and human resources that is currently being prepared at the very place of this event. We also invite them to give support to the local community that makes efforts to stop this process, and thus avoid being used in the upcoming forum, and tacitly support the intentions of the investors, which would lead themselves to absurdity, because in this way they would give a kind of stamp of approval to such a crime. Construction of a concrete cyclops in Miločerski to the park represents a brutal warning to common sense and a demonstration of power over nature and human dignity. Believing in the humanity and good intentions of the proven world names and participants of this forum, we have no doubt in the support you will provide us on this occasion," the open letter concludes.
