Citizens of Cetinje and several other Montenegrin cities gathered today at the Belvedere to mark May 9 - the Day of Victory over Fascism and the Day of Europe.
Citizens first gathered at the Balšića market in the capital, and then headed for the Belvedere.
There, among others, they were addressed by civil activist Predrag Vušurović, who said that the sovereignist resistance front was resurrected at the Belvedere.
"From the place where their defeat began - happy victory day, homeland. Long live the impenetrable Montenegrin People's Front of Freedom. They remember the Belvedere and the lead bullets from 1936, and the rubber 42, never black ones, of the Government of Montenegro".
He called the recently elected government - "the government of Dritan repackaged", which was greeted by the crowd chanting - "Dritane pe****".
"From tears and smoke of tear gas, the sovereignist civil resistance front was resurrected today... Death to clerofascism, freedom to civil and anti-fascist Montenegro," said Vušurović.
Activist Ivana Mrvaljević said that Belvedere is a word "that makes the blood of the enemies of Montenegro run cold".
"Eighty-five years later, we gathered here to stand in the way of Greater Serbian nationalism. Just as Stojadinović's government ordered a crackdown on the demonstrators at the Belvedere, so the treacherous government of Zdravko Krivokapić ordered an animal attack on the citizens... Happy Europe Day and The day of victory over fascism," she stated.
The crowd chanted, among other things, "This is not Serbia".
Civic activist Aleksandar Saša Zeković said that the Belvedere is the whole of Montenegro.
"The Belvedere is our capital and our capital Podgorica. The Belvedere is also in Nikšić, Pljevlja, Budva... The Belvedere is the whole of Montenegro, every part where freedom and the civil and anti-fascist character of the country are being defended. Today and the gathering on September 5, 2021, we say that human rights have a great meaning and we will not support their violation and ignoring. We are proud of Belvedere since 1936 and Belvedere since 2021. Then and now we resist the politics of identity denial. We hope that Belvedere has permanently stopped serving other people's interests. Cheers Montenegro," he underlined.
Activist Nemanja Batrićević said that citizens were brought to the Belvedere by "the never-learned lesson that Montenegro cannot be ruled by the one to whom Cetinje closes its doors".
"Two hundred years of denying the nation, stealing culture, suppressing Montenegrin independence - these are the reasons that brought Montenegrin patriots to the Belvedere twice in 85 years... There is no better day and better place than this to send a message to the new/old government - to give up criminalization of Belvedere and protest participants. If they are looking for the culprits for their shame, let them look for it in front of their mirrors," said Batrićević.
He added that they have a debt to Belvedere, and that it belongs to Cetinje and to every Montenegrin town and village that, as he stated, responded with the name of freedom.
"Belvedere is not a word that wears out. It is an idea of defiance and love for Montenegro. Let's raise the flag of Montenegrin glory so that the enemy can see it and know where we will wait for him. Long live Montenegrin harmony and death to fascism."
The invitation for today's gathering was shared on social networks, but it is not known who the organizers were.
The rally in Cetinje was attended, among other things, by officials of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Zoran Pažin, Obrad Mišo Stanišić, Aleksandra Vuković, Abaz Dizdarević...

Social Democratic Party (SDP) MP Draginja Vuksanović Stanković, businessman Veselin Barović...
