At the meeting of Minister without portfolio Zoran Miljanić with the permanent representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Montenegro, Daniela Gašparikova, the importance of adopting the National Strategy for the fight against corruption was emphasized.

"Recent arrests of holders of significant judicial functions are certainly important, but they are not enough to stop corruption, which is an endemic phenomenon in Montenegro," said Miljanić.

Gašparikova assessed that in this process it is very important to ensure an impartial trial.

"In this way, along with the necessary reforms and effective implementation of existing legislation, citizens' trust in institutions is strengthened," she said.

She pointed out that the focus of UNDP's support is on preventing corruption and strengthening institutions, that is, on strengthening integrity, transparency and responsibility in the public sector.

She reminded that as a result of intensive cooperation with the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption and integrity managers, an assessment of the application of anti-corruption measures in the state administration sector and in the social and child protection sector was carried out.

During the assessment, it was measured whether 63 authorities implement anti-corruption measures arising from legal obligations, with a focus on the Law on Prevention of Corruption, the Law on Management and Internal Controls, and the Law on Free Access to Information.

"The assessment showed that the index of anti-corruption measures in the state administration system is 45 percent, and 41 percent in the social and child protection system, which indicates that there is room for improvement in both systems in the planning and implementation of anti-corruption measures. Gašparova announced UNDP's support in preparation of the National Strategy for the Fight against Corruption," the statement of the Cabinet of Ministers states.
