Nikšić Municipality President Marko Kovačević held a reception for the deputy ombudsman Nerma Dobardžić and adviser Milena Krsmanović, who were introduced to the activities carried out by the local administration of the town under Trebjes in order to improve the living conditions of members of the Roma and Egyptian population and their inclusion in social life.
"Numerous projects, such as Romacted 1 and 2, were implemented in the previous period, and their goal was the inclusion of Roma in social life. Also, for the first time in Nikšić, the International Roma Day was celebrated, and in cooperation with TVNK, a show dedicated to that people - 'Roma word' - is shown once a month. The local leadership helps the Roma and Egyptian population during their regular activities, in order to create all the necessary living conditions for them. We also help this population with one-time financial aid. ", Kovačević said, as stated in the press release.
Miljaim Delija and Kristina Vasiljević from the Secretariat for Culture, Sports, Youth and Social Welfare, as stated in the announcement, pointed out that the Municipality helps the Roma population in employment. Delija said that about 50 Roma work in the utility company, but that they also work in educational and health institutions.
"The common problems of the Roma population are begging and arranged marriages. However, it seems that there have been fewer of those in Nikšić in recent years," said Delija.
As stated in the announcement, the deputy ombudsman expressed satisfaction that the leadership of the Municipality of Nikšić is dedicated to the Roma and Egyptian population and that it implements numerous projects that are of great importance to them.
"After visiting the Roma settlements with the representatives of the Nikšić Municipality, a report will be made for all cities in Montenegro and recommendations will be made with the aim of improving the living conditions of members of the Roma and Egyptian population", said Dobardžić.
