The status of doctors is incomparable compared to the earlier period

"With the changes that occurred five or six years ago, there have been changes and the Medical Chamber is on its way to winning the trade union status that belongs to it and to influence the executive and legislative power with its advice", said MP and president of the Parliamentary Committee on Health Srđan Pavićević

The status of doctors in Montenegro has improved and is incomparably better than before, it was announced at the celebration of the Day of the Medical Chamber.

Representatives of the Assembly and departmental committee, the Ministry of Health, the Faculty of Medicine and the Clinical Center (KCCG) recognized the Medical Chamber for the results achieved in the previous period, and on the occasion of the Day of the Medical Chamber, which was celebrated in Podgorica.

As announced by the Medical Chamber, the Vice President of the Assembly Branka Bošnjak thanked the doctors in Montenegro for everything they did for the citizens during the coronavirus pandemic.

"These days, I hear some dilemmas about whether the salaries of doctors should have been introduced in Public sector earnings. There is no room for that dilemma, it certainly should have been," Bošnjak said.

As she said, it is not about salaries or coefficients, but the status of doctors.

"We cannot allow our subspecialist to be of lower rank compared to government officials, otherwise there would be no one to treat us. We need to dedicate ourselves to doctors and pay them adequately", emphasized Bošnjak.

She pointed out that in the future one should take into account personnel policy and budget planning for healthcare, with a special focus on young doctors.

"Discussions about housing for young doctors should be initiated. We need to continue with the trend of attracting staff to public health, and now that we have found that modus operandi, we need to maintain it," said Bošnjak.

MP and president of the Parliamentary Health Committee, Srđan Pavićević, assessed that the current status of doctors is incomparable compared to the period of ten, 15 or 20 years ago.

Pavićević said that the fact is that the Medical Chamber has become what it should be.

According to him, for almost a decade, she was not up to the task because she did not deal with essential work and degraded her authentic role.

"With the changes that occurred five or six years ago, there have been changes and the Chamber of Medicine is on its way to winning the guild status that belongs to it and to influence the executive and legislative power with its advice", assessed Pavićević.

It is stated that the Director General of the Directorate for Health Care, Pharmacology and Regulated Professions in the Ministry of Health, Slađana Ćorić, has confirmed that the Medical Chamber will have a partner in that department.

"The Medical Chamber is a reputable guild and association whose leadership and members are considered reputable professionals in the medical profession and science. The Ministry of Health considers the Medical Chamber a partner and a solid support in the creation of health policies and directions that will lead us to quality, fast and accessible health care," said Ćorić.

As she said, professional organizations are very important in order to build a modern healthcare system in which doctors have the place they deserve and patients who are satisfied with their services.

The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Montenegro, Miodrag Radunović, pointed out that recognition must be given to the current management of the Medical Chamber for editing regulations and work systems, maintaining a credible register of doctors, licensing and monitoring professional and scientific training.

"The foundations of professional self-regulation of the medical profession have been broken, with the search for sources of investment in human resources", assessed Radunović and added that society as a whole must understand that without a satisfied doctor, there is no satisfied service user.

The medical director of KCCG, Zoran Terzić, assessed that, if there was a dilemma, the Chamber of Physicians in the last year and a half showed the way to win victories in the process of the multi-decade struggle for the status of a doctor.

"Thanks to Dr. Cerović, but also to the Ministry of Health, conditions have been created that encourage proven, as well as younger doctors, to stay in their country, but also to prioritize work in public health institutions," said Terzić.

Terzić said that the first salary increase from January 1, along with the normalization of coefficients, which was announced from July 1, further motivates Montenegrin doctors.

"That's why we have to give recognition to the Medical Chamber, which has now achieved our goals that were set 30 years ago," said Terzić.

He said that he believes that the time has come for all Montenegrin doctors, united in the Medical Chamber, with all the differences that are our advantage and value, not a disadvantage, to be more unique than ever.

"This is the need of all the citizens of Montenegro, but also the need of our profession," emphasized Terzić.

As announced, the representative of the Medical Chamber of Serbia, Nenad Đoković, congratulated his colleagues on the Day of the Medical Chamber on behalf of 34 thousand members.

He suggested to the Medical Chamber of Montenegro more intensive activities in international professional organizations.
