Marijana Bojanić in the supervisory board of the World Association of Publishers

The executive director of ND "Vijesti" and TV Vijesti, Marijana Bojanić, was elected as a new member of the supervisory board of the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA).

WAN-IFRA is a global organization of world publishers, based in Paris, whose mission is to protect the rights of journalists and publishers worldwide to manage independent media.

In addition to Bojanić, at the annual meeting of the Association, 10 other board members were elected, among others from the United States of America, Egypt, Colombia, India, Lebanon, Kenya, and the board members are, among others, the directors of Der Standard (Austria), Frankfurter Algemeine Zeitung (Germany ), BBC (United Kingdom).

"Being a member of the board of such an important world organization is a great honor for Montenegro, Vijesti and me personally. The printed media have been facing operational difficulties for years, the biggest of which are the global drop in circulation, the enormous jump in the price of paper and its difficult procurement. The drop in income, and the increase in costs inevitably leads to a decrease in the number of employees in newsrooms around the world. On the other hand, the portals of renowned media houses have unfair competition that takes over media content created in serious newsrooms and which threatens business and therefore content that should be of interest to the public These are not problems that face only Montenegro, but the media around the world. That's why I see membership in the board of this organization as a chance to work together in the best interest of the public, which has the right to know timely, accurate and verified information, which can only be obtained from serious newsrooms that adhere to ethical codes and rules of the profession," said Bojanić on that occasion.

As they pointed out in the Association's announcement, the changes in the board of directors signal WAN-IFRA's continued commitment to fulfill its strategic plan for diversity and inclusion launched in 2017 and ensure that the Association has additional skills and experience to support future development in different parts of the world.

"Today's announcement advances our ongoing efforts to expand the expertise and diversity of our board and confirms that more women are holding senior positions in media. However, we are far from the parity we strive for as an industry. I hope this and future elections will lead the way," said the executive director of WAN-IFRA Vincent Pereinj.

WAN-IFRA's Media Freedom Unit promotes equality, security and stability through a portfolio of media-related work in over 25 countries.

WAN-IFRA has a global network of three thousand publishing companies and technology entrepreneurs, and 60 publishing associations representing 18 thousand publications in 120 countries of the world.
