Confirmation of the Paris Agreement opens up space for reconsidering plans for the economic development of Montenegro, especially controversial projects that imply further devastation of space and endangering the environment and human health, the Ozone Environmental Movement assessed. Today, with the votes of 41 deputies, the Parliament adopted the Law on Confirmation of the Paris Agreement, which confirms Montenegro's obligation to jointly fight against the negative impact of climate change with other signatory countries and, as assessed, strengthens its path to membership in the European Union. "With the adoption of the Law on Confirmation of the Paris Agreement, which was brought to Cetinje today by the members of the Parliament of Montenegro, space has been opened for reconsidering the plans for the economic development of our country, especially those controversial projects that imply further devastation of space and endangering the environment and people's health," he said. director of Ozone, Aleksandar Perović, to the agency MINA. As he stated, this is not only about emissions of harmful gases and mitigating the consequences of global warming, i.e. controlled climate change. "The essence lies in the responsibility towards the living world and the planet, which is endangered today due to the uncontrolled valorization of natural resources, unscrupulous industrialization whose goal was to create a more comfortable life for certain interest groups, not for the entire human race as it is deliberately marketed from the addresses of those countries that the most responsible for the current situation," added Perović. According to him, it is clear that the binding nature of the Paris Agreement, which makes it different from previous similar documents of a declarative nature, is something that should influence even the biggest skeptics, who, as he said, with the full foundation of such an attitude, exist in all circles of society , in those and lay ones. "When it comes to Montenegro specifically, the Paris Agreement should give wind to all those who recognize the potential of an ecological state, the only economic category from Article 1 of the Constitution, to finally dare to set a vision and take strategic steps towards the creation of a rich society, recognizable by efficient and responsible use of natural resources", announced Perović. He believes that the time has come for the decision-making opportunity to be given to those personnel who have both the idea and the knowledge to improve the current situation in society and use global guidelines, such as the Paris Agreement, so that current and future generations benefit from it, he added. is, only interest groups as it has been done so far. Perović believes that it is encouraging that the Parliament still today recognized the need to adopt the Law on Confirmation of the Paris Agreement. "So we hope that now both the executive and legislative powers will be much more efficient in respecting what has been adopted and what is the valid legal framework, unlike many times until now when laws remained a dead letter". "So, the Second Unit of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant should be replaced as soon as possible with those that involve the use of greener energy sources, in a way that defines the most modern technological solutions with the least possible consequences for the quality of the environment and ecosystems," concluded Perović.
