The Association of Fighters of the National Liberation War (UBNOR) and the anti-fascists of Nikšić held a commemoration at the monument on Kapina polje to mark the 79th anniversary of the shooting of 25 fighters.
After they laid flowers, the president of Nikšić UBNOR Slobodan Bato Mirjačić he reminded that there are more than 200 monuments in the municipality of Nikšić and said that we must not allow them to be neglected and forgotten.
Radovan Damjanović, a member of the UBNOR presidency, recalled that on June 25, 1943, the occupier and local traitors took 180 patriots from the Bar camp and shot them in several places in Montenegro, including 25 who were killed near the Moštanica river.
Among those shot in other places of Montenegro that day, there were also 19 from the municipality of Nikšić.
"This retaliation by the occupiers followed their heavy defeats in battles with partisan units during the famous Fourth and Fifth Offensives. Montenegro clearly and loudly said 'no' to fascism in the historic year 1941, but fascism did not give up on it, as well as on many areas today in Europe and the world. "Unfortunately, today in the 21st century we are witnessing the brutal killing and destruction of basic human rights and freedoms of both individuals and state communities," said Damjanović.
According to him, where people are killed, their freedom, right to dignity, ideas of humanism, tolerance and equality, fascism and Nazism rule.
"We must not allow fascism to win. You should be aware that in every society, including ours, there are organized movements and individuals who want to fascism society and create an atmosphere of hatred towards others".
Damjanović said that everyone must be united around the idea of anti-fascism, which today is the heritage of advanced humanity.
"With this act, we will appreciate and respect in the best way these victims, in front of whose monument we stand, and the numerous ones throughout Montenegro who fought, lived, died and fought for the freedom of Montenegro. Let's protest against all forms of primitivism, insulting national and personal dignity, desecration of state symbols, writing graffiti and singing nationalist songs..."
Damjanović pointed out that we must not allow the humiliation and rewriting of the history of NOR, as well as the desecration of monuments erected to fighters and anti-fascists who brought freedom and peace.
The delegation of the municipal committee of the Yugoslav Communist Party of Montenegro Nikšić also laid flowers.
