Firefighters put out as many as 2.135 fires in Podgorica from the first of June to the first of October, which is a record for the number of interventions in that period.

"It is an absolute record for the number of interventions during the summer season, that is, we had as many as 998 more fires than last year in that period," said the head of the Protection and Rescue Service, Andrija Čađenović.

This year, the record for the number of interventions in one month was also broken, because in July they had as many as 1.072 interventions to extinguish fires.

"This year's July was a record for the number of interventions in one month, in 24 hours we once had as many as 72 fires," said Čađenović.

He explained that in July 2015, it was recorded that there were 900 fires, and the record number so far in that month was in 2007, when firefighters intervened exactly one thousand times.

He pointed out that for 99 percent of fires this summer season, the cause is the human factor.

"I responsibly claim that it is so. Of course, not every fire is caused intentionally, but also by the carelessness of people," said Čađenović.

He said that the summer fire season ended on October 25st, so there was no need to hire XNUMX seasonal workers, who were sent home.

"We also closed the checkpoints on Gorica hill, as well as in the city municipalities of Tuzi and Golubovci. Those points were open during the summer fire season, for the best and most efficient intervention. There were two firefighters at each checkpoint," said Čađenović.

He pointed out that this year they had exceptional cooperation with non-governmental organizations, volunteers and citizens, which greatly helped preserve green areas and property.

Čađenović said that, having learned from that experience, in the coming period he will devote himself even more to cooperation and education of citizens.

From June to October, he said, firefighters transported 466 water tanks to waterless areas.

"In other words, we transported 179 more tankers compared to the same period last year," said Čađenović.
