Montenegro celebrates its Statehood Day

Today, Montenegro celebrates Statehood Day, in memory of July 13, 1878, when it was recognized as an independent state at the Berlin Congress and the same date in 1941, when the Montenegrin people began their uprising against fascism.

Montenegrin President Milo Đukanović, at the reception on the occasion of the Statehood Day, which he organized in Cetinje, said that the European Union realized that it is a critical moment to continue and in due time complete the process of unification of Europe, and this implies the imminent membership of Montenegro and other countries region.

He said that today, 81 years after the Thirteenth of July Uprising in 1941, in free, independent Montenegro, the great idea that started that magnificent event has not died out.

Đukanović pointed out that this event had universal significance at the time of the fascist scourge that was ravaging Europe.

"That's why the world greats of that time recognized it as the direction where humanity should go. "The thirteenth of July 1941 permanently marked the path of the restoration of Montenegrin state and national identity, the path of progress and a promising European future," said Đukanović.

He stated that July 13, 1878, when the international recognition of Montenegro was confirmed for the first time at the Berlin Congress, was equally inspiring for Montenegro.
