The fire at the Mislov do landfill is active again. As "Vijesti" was told, the fire broke out a little after 11 o'clock.
And last month there was a fire at the landfill, which has long since ceased to be, and which is the biggest environmental problem of Nikšić.
Members of the Protection and Rescue Service, as well as landfill employees, participate in extinguishing the large-scale fire.
"We are preventing the fire from spreading to Budoš, but the wind is making it difficult to put it out. Explosions are constantly heard," said Goran Tripković from the Protection and Rescue Service.
The disposal of city waste at the Mislov do landfill, on an area of about two hectares, began in 2003.
At the time, it was said that it would be temporary and closed after five years. The landfill began to form in a natural depression, and over the years an artificial hill of various wastes was formed.
It is estimated that about 20 tons of different types of waste are deposited in Mislovi Dol on an annual basis, which are not separated according to any criteria.
Environmentalists have been warning for years about the danger posed by the landfill, which, according to them, did not meet the prescribed standards even in the days when it became temporary.
Locals organized protests several times, and fires and smoke that could cover the city for weeks are not a rare phenomenon.
At the beginning of June, the President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Marko Kovačević, signed a contract with the Tekon Tehnokonsalting Consortium - Belgrade and E3 Consulting - Podgorica for the preparation of a feasibility study for the rehabilitation of the landfill Mislov do.
The company "Tekon" made a 3D thermal imaging of Mislo dol, which showed the presence of fire in the depth of the landfill.
Fires at the landfill have been going on for ten years, and the company "Tekon" will propose a technical solution, after which, as previously announced by the local administration, they will start extinguishing internal fires and calming the landfill.
