Two fires are active in the municipality of Nikšić - on Mount Vojnik, where it has been burning for ten days, and in the town of Potkupići, in the local community of Bogetići, where the fire has been active for four days.
"On Bogetići, we had the help of the Army of Montenegro all day yesterday, and we are grateful to them for that. They still help us today. Early this morning, around two o'clock, we saved the houses of Lješković. As for Vojnik, yesterday we had hoped that we had managed to 'arrest' the fire on the mountain and in Jasen polje, but the direction of the wind changed and fueled the fire even more. All available forces are on the ground and we are doing our best," said the commander of the Nikšić Protection and Rescue Service, Slavko Tadić.
The residents of Bogetić, who are on duty to prevent the spread of the fire, provide great help to the firefighters and rescuers.
"It seems that only the foresters, firefighters and hunters of the 'Dr Zoran Kesler' company care about Mount Vojnik. We have been here day and night for ten days, we have 'died' more, and no one has taken any serious action. I call on the Presidents of the State and the Government and all the ministers, if they have a little courage and if they care about Vojnik, to organize a group of about a hundred people and send it here. With such a large group, we would have managed to put out the fire. Otherwise, both we and the Soldier will be killed", visibly annoyed, but also tired, Vukomir Ćirković, an employee of the Forestry Administration PJ Nikšić, who has been side by side with the firefighters and rescuers for days, told "Vijesta".
The whole of Nikšić is covered in smoke and it's hard to breathe, and the locals who live near active fires don't even need to be told how it is.
There is also a fire in the Plužine municipality - the fire in the village of Brijeg has been extinguished, but there is still an active fire in the village of Zakamen, in the town of Dola.
"The houses are not threatened at the moment. We have been extinguishing the fire in the village of Zakamen for two days. The helicopter of the Army of Montenegro is also participating in extinguishing the fire. Both they and we are doing our best to extinguish the fire," the commander of the Plužine Protection and Rescue Service told "Vijesta" , Mirko Cicmil.
