"We haven't had a drop of water for more than two months... I also have a restaurant and apartments, but because of the water, all the guests have fled. This is a disaster, we have fallen into depression," said Hajro from Starograd at the protest held today in front of the Vodovod office building in Ulcinj. Bušatlić.
The inhabitants of the ancient fortress gathered today to express their dissatisfaction and revolt regarding the shortage of water in a situation where unbearable heat is breaking daily records, which further complicates life in the Old Town. Local resident Ismet Karamanaga said that protests are not the manner of Old Town residents.
"This time they forced us to ask for the rights that follow us and that our other fellow citizens have, and that is the right to have water in the 21st century," said Karamanaga. He stated that the tap water comes in a thin stream at night and for a very short time.
"It is obvious that the Old Town was bypassed when the Regional Waterworks was put into operation," said Karamanaga.
He stated that no one from Vodovod addressed them on that occasion today.
Earlier, the Municipality told the news that there was no malfunction, but that the water simply did not reach the pipes of the ancient fortress.
"We have a big problem because the consumption is so high that the water does not reach the Old Town. We started to take more water from the Regional Waterworks in order to be able to balance, but it will be difficult, especially for one part of the Old Town", said our interlocutor at the time.
The inhabitants of the old town are therefore forced to buy water, and since the cistern can only go that far, they use fire hoses to carry it to houses and restaurants.
