Disruption of the regular water supply of the Old Town and the Liman settlement is a consequence of the large-scale construction of both residential and business buildings in Ulcinjsko polje, which did not follow the construction of new infrastructure that would have followed the increased consumption in that part.
This is written in the announcement of DOO Vodovod i kanalizija after a public protest by residents of the Old Town in front of the company's premises on Tuesday morning.
The old townspeople then gathered to express their dissatisfaction and revolt regarding the almost two-month water shortage in a situation where the unbearable heat breaks daily records, which further complicates life in the ancient fortress.
The company from Ulcinj says that the springs in the municipality of Ulcinj are at the hydrological minimum.
"Taking into account the high temperatures of the past month, as well as the large number of visitors, water consumption is at the maximum values that this company can deliver. Taking these circumstances into account, it is expected that there will be difficulties in the coming days as far as regular water supply is concerned, with possible minor interruptions", the announcement reads.
They appeal to all users of the public water supply system, and at the same time demand from them to use water as rationally as possible and not to use it for watering gardens and other public areas "because every spilled amount increases the possibility of interrupting the regular water supply".
They explained that employees from the technical service have been present in the Old Town for two weeks, all for the purpose of monitoring consumption, as well as detecting possible malfunctions.
"In addition to these activities, the competent services for water meter maintenance also started cleaning the valves and water meters of consumers in the Old Town with the aim of removing impurities and possible blockages. Also, the continuous monitoring of water consumption in certain zones on the territory of the municipality of Ulcinj was started with the aim of reducing inappropriate consumption and increasing the pressure in the intermediate zone," the announcement reads.
In the meantime, it is added, the company regularly notified and demanded consumers in the lower zone of the Old Town to use water more rationally, all in order to increase the flow of water to residents in the upper zone.
For more than a month, the residents of the old town have been forced to buy water, and since the cistern can only go that far, they use fire hoses to bring it to houses and restaurants. Because of this, as they claim, many of their guests have already left, and others are canceling and not coming.
