A dead young hind was found this morning around eight o'clock by passers-by on the main road between Mojkovac and Kolašin.
According to unofficial information from the Mojkovac police, the animal was not shot, but was most likely killed by a car.
This is the third case of the death of deer game on the highway in just a few months. According to unofficial information from the Mojkovac police, the animal was not shot, but most likely died from being hit by a car.
Mile Rnković, Head of the Protection Service in Biogradska Gora National Park, reminds that, during the past few months, two cubs and one older deer died on the highway.
"It's not the first time that this happens, and it's always outside the territory of Biogradska gora National Park. As the Protection Service, we cover a large area of the rainforest and we can't protect wild game when it's on the highway. When it leaves the National Park, hunting societies are responsible for wild game," explains Rnković. Deer game approaches the highway both in summer and in winter. In summer, the reason is to cool off from the heat in the Tara River, and in winter, salt is used to sprinkle the highway," he reminds.
On several occasions, says Rnković, the employees of the NP have returned the game and moved it away from the highway, but they find another way and reach the tare and the road again. He explains that it is characteristic that mostly younger deer are killed, because "older game are more experienced and behave more carefully when they approach the highway".
