In order to promote cycling as a sustainable form of transport, the Municipality of Kolašin has installed new parking lots for bicycles, near administrative and business facilities.
Previously, the NGO "Biciklo.me" donated bicycle parking spaces for public institutions in the city. In this way, the previous complete lack of parking was solved, which was also recorded in the strategies aimed at improving this mode of transportation.
"In the coming period, we will continue to promote cycling as a sustainable mode of transportation, which benefits health, the economy and the environment. The necessary and high-quality infrastructure will be provided for this type of transport, and we will try to ensure that cyclists in our city have the best possible conditions", announced the Municipality.
The cycling strategy in Kolašin, which was recently completed, should create conditions for cycling to be an equal and safe way of performing daily duties and an established form of recreation. In order to realize that vision, as it says in the document, it is necessary to establish better conditions on several levels.
The authors of the document expect that it will contribute to the strengthening of Kolasin's tourist offer.
The research that preceded the preparation of the Strategy showed that the people of Kolasin did not prefer cycling until now, i.e. that they prefer to walk (54,6 percent) or drive a car (32,3 percent), while the number of people who use bicycles for transportation is negligible and only moves about 0,3 percent.
One of the reasons for such a situation is the lack of adaptation of the infrastructure so far.
Cyclists in that city only have the road at their disposal, which "makes them vulnerable road users, which is why many are discouraged from using that means of transportation."
Kolašin has only one bike path, along the promenade next to Tara. However, that path is neither completed nor connected to the city center.
Numerous measures are planned that will improve the conditions for cycling. First of all, it is planned to adapt planning documents, subsidize the purchase of bicycles, improve the infrastructure, create a map of bicycle tours...
Special attention is paid to the possibility of Kolašin becoming a recognizable destination for cycle tourism. In addition to other benefits related to this form of tourism, Staregia also says that it would be a huge potential for the development of rural areas.
