Without media freedom, there is no democracy, development and peace, said Prime Minister in technical mandate Dritan Abazović, who last night in Washington attended the awards ceremony for media professionals from around the world, organized by the Transatlantic Leadership Network (TLN).

As one of the six "Freedom of Media" laureates, one of the founders of Vijesti Željko Ivanović won the award in the "Excellence of Commentary and Criticism" category.

In addition to Ivanovic, the TLN gold medal was awarded to Jennifer Griffin, Fox News associate for national security at the Pentagon, while the gold medal for investigative work in foreign media went to Olga Rudenko, editor-in-chief of the Kiev Independent from Ukraine. Shirin Abu Akleh was awarded posthumously in the category of international reporting, while Nobel laureate Maria Resa, Filipino-American journalist and general director of the Repler portal, was awarded in the category of highlighting corruption.

The twenty-member international jury, which consisted of leading people of TLN, American diplomats and well-known editors and authors of leading American and European media, awarded Vladislav Davidjon, an American citizen born in Uzbekistan, journalist of Tablet magazine and founder of Odesa Review, in the category of young journalists.

Abazović pointed out, as announced by the Government, that there is no greater honor than to attend an event where the citizens of Montenegro are awarded with awards for success.

"The goal is to show that we stand with the people who fight for freedom, justice and truth and in this way, with recognition in the world, bring success to their country," stressed Abazović.

He stated that we should all work to encourage media freedom.

"Without media freedom, there is no democracy. Without democracy, there is no development and peace. I believe that in the future we will all fight for these values," Abazović pointed out.

Congratulating Ivanović once again and all those who persevere in the fight for freedom of speech, thought and action, he pointed out that we should all work together for a democratic Montenegro. "It is a cosmopolitan and European spirit that we need to bring more significantly to our country," concluded Abazović.
